A Family-Run Business That Truly Understands Small Business Life
With a five-year-old and a two-year-old at home, the school holidays bring a whole new routine for us. Like many small business owners, we have to carefully plan our days to make sure our work gets done while also making sure we spend precious time with our children.
Unlike large media agencies, working with SMR Social means working directly with a real family. You’re not one of hundreds of clients, you’re someone we personally get to know and support with genuine care and dedication. And yes, sometimes that means juggling potty training and Instagram captions all in the same day!
How We Make It Work During the School Holidays
During half-term, our days look a little different:
- Stephen starts early: He often gets up before sunrise to get a head start on client work before the household wakes up.
- Mornings are family time: We all eat breakfast together and get ready for the day ahead.
- Split shifts: Abby takes the kids out for a local adventure, a trip to the park or one of the many fantastic places for children in our area, while Stephen focuses on client tasks.
- Afternoon swap: We switch roles so Abby can dive into her workload while Stephen entertains the kids.
- Evening catch-ups: If needed, we log back on after bedtime to finish up work or schedule posts.
It’s not always easy, and there are days when things don’t go to plan. But we always find a way to make sure our clients are looked after.
Our Clients Support Our Family: And We Never Take That Lightly
One of the most rewarding things about running SMR Social is how understanding and supportive our clients are. Many of them are small business owners themselves and know what it’s like to juggle work and family. During school holidays, some even tell us to take things a bit slower and enjoy time with our children, and that means the world to us.
