Ever wondered what it’s really like behind the scenes at SMR Social? As a husband-and-wife team running a small but mighty social media agency, our days are carefully structured to balance parenting, creativity, and helping small businesses shine online.

Here’s a look at how a typical weekday unfolds at SMR Social, and how we keep everything running smoothly while delivering high-quality social media content for our clients.

5am – 7am: Early Morning Creativity

Stephen starts the day early to get a head start on content creation. Using a mix of Canva, ChatGPT, and his own creative flair, he crafts engaging social media posts tailored to each of our clients.

This quiet time is perfect for:

  • Designing graphics and Reels
  • Drafting captions that match each client’s tone of voice
  • Scheduling posts or preparing content calendars

7am – 9am: Family Time

Work takes a back seat while we get ourselves and the kids ready for the day ahead. As parents of a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old, this part of the morning is all about breakfast, school prep, and making sure everyone starts their day on the right foot. Which almost never happens right now…

9am – 10am: Split Focus

While Stephen heads to the gym, Abby gets started on her content creation tasks. Like Stephen, she uses Canva and ChatGPT to bring ideas to life with personalised visuals and thoughtful captions for each client’s brand.

10am – 12pm: Team Catch-Up and Deep Work

We begin this block with a quick 10-minute catch-up to align on the day’s priorities and client needs. Then it’s heads-down time:

  • Creating social media content across multiple platforms
  • Organising and planning upcoming campaigns
  • Stephen handles client calls and keeps on top of email communication

12pm – 1pm: Lunch & Learning

While we recharge with lunch, we stay inspired by watching marketing videos on YouTube. It’s our way of staying updated on new social trends and tactics so we can bring fresh ideas to our clients.

1pm – 3pm: Content & Community Management

This block is all about execution:

  • Finalising and scheduling content
  • Engaging with followers through comments and DMs
  • Managing communities across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn for our clients

3pm – 4.30pm: Client Support & Business Development

After Abby heads out to pick up the kids, Stephen switches focus to the business side of SMR Social:

  • Writing proposals for new clients and projects
  • Responding to enquiries and ongoing communication
  • Taking discovery calls with prospective clients

4.30pm Onwards: Family Time

Work is wrapped up for the day, and we shift into family mode. Whether it’s helping with homework, heading to the park, or enjoying dinner together, we cherish this time as much as we value our work.

Why This Routine Works for Our Clients

This structure helps us deliver consistent, high-quality service to every business we work with. As a small family-run agency, we understand the challenges that other small businesses face. We’re not just running social media accounts—we’re building meaningful relationships with our clients and delivering results they can rely on.
