THE STORY BEHIND THE NUMBERS

It All Started at 5am…

I’ve been playing guitar since I was 14, but there were still some iconic guitar solos I’d never properly learned. So, one morning at 5am, I decided to do something about it.

I picked up my guitar, started practising the solo from Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses and recorded my progress.

There was no elaborate content strategy, no professional production team and certainly no expectation that millions of people would eventually watch these videos. I simply wanted to improve my guitar playing and thought it might be interesting to share the journey.

Rather than waiting until I could play everything perfectly, I posted the process as it happened. The mistakes, the repetition, the improvements and the occasional breakthrough were all part of the story.

That decision to document the journey, rather than just showcase the finished result, turned out to be one of the most important ingredients in its success.

THE TURNING POINT

Day 19. Everything Changed.

Nineteen days into the challenge, I uploaded another video of myself practising the Sweet Child O’ Mine solo. Nothing particularly unusual about it. I was still in my dressing gown, still practising early in the morning and still sharing my progress.

But this time, something happened.

The video started gaining traction, reaching people far beyond my existing audience. Comments, likes and new followers began arriving at a rate I’d never experienced before.

Eventually, that single video achieved over 953,000 views, around 96,000 likes and brought in approximately 1,500 new followers.

What made it work wasn’t perfect production or a carefully scripted performance. It was an authentic moment that people could relate to, combined with the momentum of a story they’d been following.

The lesson? Sometimes the content you least expect to succeed is the content that connects most strongly with your audience.

BEYOND THE VIEWS

From Content to Collaborations

As the audience grew across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, something else began to happen. Established brands started taking notice.

What had begun as a personal guitar challenge was now creating opportunities for product collaborations, paid partnerships and recognition from names I’d admired for years.

It was a reminder that successful social media content isn’t simply about generating views. It’s about building an audience, earning trust and creating genuine commercial opportunities.

Enya Music

One of the most exciting opportunities was collaborating with Enya Music, who provided guitars for me to feature in my content.

A video of me playing Purple Rain using an Enya guitar went on to achieve approximately 270,000 views, demonstrating how a brand can become part of an authentic creator story rather than interrupting it with traditional advertising.

Fender

A particularly memorable moment came when Fender’s official social media account commented on one of my guitar videos.

There was no paid arrangement or formal collaboration behind this interaction. It was simply an example of authentic content attracting the attention of one of the world’s most recognisable guitar brands.

Music & Guitar Equipment Brands

The growing audience also led to collaborations with brands including Donner Music, Lekato and Resonairr.

These opportunities allowed me to feature products relevant to my audience while continuing to create the guitar content people originally followed me for.

Paid Brand Partnerships

Alongside music-related collaborations, the audience also attracted paid partnership opportunities with brands including Temu and ToneMatcher.

This demonstrated how consistent organic content could develop into a commercially valuable creator platform, without losing the personality and authenticity that made the content successful.

The biggest achievement wasn’t simply being noticed by brands. It was creating content that people genuinely wanted to watch, building an audience that brands wanted to reach.
