At SMR Social, we’ll be honest: we often plan content just a week in advance. Social media changes fast, and being responsive to trends, events, and new ideas helps us keep our clients’ content fresh and relevant.

But we also know many small business owners love the idea of boxing off a whole month of social media content in one sitting. It’s efficient, time-saving, and reduces the daily stress of “What should I post today?”

So even if we don’t always do it this way ourselves, here’s our best advice for planning and batching a month of social media content in one afternoon.

Step 1: Define Your Goals for the Month

Before you start brainstorming posts, ask yourself:

  • Are you trying to increase brand awareness?
  • Drive traffic to your website?
  • Promote a specific service or product?
  • Build trust and authority?

Clarity here will guide every post you create.

Step 2: Pick Your Content Themes

Avoid reinventing the wheel every week. Choose 3–5 core themes you’ll rotate through. For example:

  • Customer testimonials
  • Behind-the-scenes at your business
  • Educational tips or how-tos
  • Product or service spotlights
  • Personal stories or team introductions

These themes make brainstorming faster and keep your feed balanced.

Step 3: Create a Simple Calendar

Break the month into posting days. Even 2–3 posts a week adds up to 8–12 posts a month.

Example:

  • Monday: Educational tip
  • Wednesday: Behind-the-scenes photo
  • Friday: Customer testimonial or review

Plot these out in a calendar (paper, spreadsheet, or a tool like Trello or Notion).

Step 4: Batch Your Writing and Design

Once you know what you’re posting, sit down and write all your captions at once. Then, use Canva or your favourite design tool to create the visuals in one go.

Batching reduces context switching and is much faster than doing one post at a time.

Step 5: Schedule Your Posts

Use free or paid scheduling tools like Meta Business Suite, Buffer, or Later to upload your content and set the times.

Scheduling in advance means you won’t have to think about posting daily, and you’ll maintain consistent visibility with your audience.

A Note from SMR Social

We rarely plan an entire month ahead ourselves because we want to stay flexible. Trends change. News happens. Fresh ideas pop up.

But for many small businesses who prefer to plan ahead and “set it and forget it,” this method works brilliantly. It reduces stress, ensures consistency, and saves tons of time over the month.
